Edna Allsop Henke
Co-Founder & Board Chair
Edna Henke is a lifelong advocate for human rights,, education, and service. Born in 1947, Edna and Lynn grew up in Draper, Utah, just a few blocks from each other. After high school she was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance when Lynn returned from his mission, they quickly fell in love and were married in a year later, in 1966. Becoming a wife and mother of five, has been her greatest joy and accomplishment. When her children were all in school full time, she began working for the Utah Public Health Department. Her experience there, and desire to help others, led her to The Arc of Washington County, (a non-profit association that provided advocacy and service to people with cognitive and physical disabilities). She worked as the Executive Director for twenty years. She loved working with the people they were able to serve in their indolence in living and employment, and those employees she worked beside. They worked with approximately seventy-five people, with a staff of 70 personnel. It was challenging and rewarding and is an experience she has been grateful was in her path.
Beyond her professional achievements, Edna has devoted much of her life to service within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, fulfilling numerous callings as a teacher and leader in various positions of responsibility. Her faith in Christ and love for others have guided every part of her journey.
As Co-Founder and Chairman of CHOCU (Children Helping Other Children in Uganda), Edna brings her extensive experience, compassion, and faith to help provide vulnerable children with educational opportunities, hope, and a brighter future. She continues to play an essential role in shaping CHOCU’s vision and it is her hope that every child, no matter their background, has an opportunity to participate in school studies and activities successfully.
