⭐ 13. Future Leaders Education Pathway (BYU-Pathway Track)

Our Purpose: Prepare and support promising CHOCU youth (ages 17+) to join BYU-Pathway Worldwide, complete a low-cost U.S. degree online, and develop spiritually, academically, and professionally, no matter their background.

EXPANSION: Activities

  • ▪Host village and church-based sensitizations introducing BYU-Pathway

▪Use testimonies of local PathwayConnect alumni

▪Clarify common myths (e.g., "It’s for Americans," "It’s too expensive")

▪Explain that all can apply regardless of tribe, wealth, or school performance

▪Promote Pathway as a faith-based degree program but open to all who want to learn

👉 Many youth and parents have never heard of BYU-Pathway — this step is critical to open their imagination.

  • Offer targeted spoken and written English classes for youth 16–20

    Focus on:

    ▪Email writing

    ▪Grammar and sentence structure

    ▪Vocabulary and confidence

    ▪Listening comprehension

▪Practice Pathway-style conversations and class assignments

▪Hold debates and storytelling events to build fluency

👉 English is often the main barrier for smart rural youth. CHOCU helps them cross it with pride.

  • Teach the essential tech skills needed for Pathway success:

    ▪Typing

    ▪Using email

    ▪Navigating Canvas (Pathway's platform)

    ▪Attending Zoom calls

    ▪Submitting assignments

▪Hold BYU-PW simulation sessions in CHOCU Learning Centers

▪Provide practice logins and guided exercises

👉 You’re not just enrolling students  you’re preparing them to thrive.

➡️ This reduces dropout and ensures CHOCU youth are respected in class.

  • ▪Help students gather documents (national ID, academic records, emails)

▪Walk them through application steps, including institute registration

▪Conduct mock interviews or intro calls

▪Provide recommendation letters from CHOCU (if needed)

▪Partner with local leaders to vouch for student backgrounds

👉 Application confusion is one of the top reasons youth give up. CHOCU clears the way.

  • ▪Offer subsidized data bundles or Wi-Fi access for BYU-PW students

▪Create shared Zoom rooms or study groups with stable internet

▪Track usage to ensure academic focus

▪Provide backup solar power or charging during outages

👉 Many dropouts happen not due to academics, but poor internet.

    This simple support ensures continuity.

    ➡️ A CHOCU-sponsored 1GB/week bundle = transformed access.

  • ▪Assign each student a CHOCU mentor to guide them through challenges

    Check in monthly on:

    ▪Classwork

    ▪Faith journey

    ▪Emotional health

    ▪Tech problems

▪Encourage students to pay it forward by mentoring others

▪Celebrate graduates with community honor ceremonies

👉 This is what makes CHOCU unique: you’re not just enrolling students  you’re raising leaders.

➡️ Students graduate not only with a degree, but with a new identity.

🔷 EXPANSION: Impact

  • ▪Students earn online U.S. degrees in business, tech, healthcare, and more

    ▪No need to leave Uganda

    ▪Affordable ($5–$15/month depending on location)

    ▪Academic confidence skyrockets

  • ▪Graduates can work remotely, start businesses, or enter leadership roles

▪Stand out in local job markets
