⭐ 8. Household Economic Strengthening (HES)

Our Purpose: Lift families out of poverty by equipping them with financial tools, income-generating skills, and small-scale business support especially for caregivers of vulnerable children.

EXPANSION: Activities

  • ▪Form “CHOCU Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)” of 15–30 members

▪Train members in saving discipline, rotating funds, and loan repayment

▪Provide starter kits: lockboxes, ledgers, passbooks

▪Encourage groups to set bylaws (meeting times, emergency funds, interest rules)

▪Include “social fund” contributions for sick or bereaved families

▪Facilitate community celebrations during savings “share-outs”

👉 These groups restore financial dignity to people with no bank access.

They also become support groups, prayer groups, and child welfare advocates.

  • Identify members with viable ideas: tailoring, poultry, vegetable stalls, hair salons, soap-making, boda repair, etc.

    Provide one-time kits:

    ▪Sewing machines

    ▪Seed packets

    ▪Cooking stoves

    ▪Business signage

    ▪Simple capital

Require business plan, mentor matching, and commitment to child-focused goals (e.g. keep children in school)

👉 CHOCU doesn’t give handouts it plants businesses that make children’s futures more secure.

➡️ Parents stop relying on donors and start building legacy income.

    ▪Beadwork & local crafts

    ▪Basic financial literacy

    ▪Award CHOCU-branded certificates of completion

▪Showcase success stories at community gatherings

👉 This gives people hope and identity  not just money. It prepares them for self-worth and long-term contribution.

➡️ Especially powerful for teen mothers, widows, and unemployed fathers.

  • Pair each small business starter with a local business mentor

Offer quarterly “CHOCU Market Days” where members showcase and sell

    Host group sessions on:

    ▪customer service

    ▪reinvesting profits

    ▪branding and packaging

    ▪mobile money

Invite successful alumni to motivate others

👉 This is where “small income” becomes small enterprise.

CHOCU becomes a hub of local innovation.

➡️ Also opens doors for partnerships with microfinance or church-based economic development groups.

🔷 EXPANSION: Impact
