⭐ 6. Young Mothers Support & Parenting Education Program

Our Purpose: Empower vulnerable mothers especially young, single, or first-time moms with knowledge, support, and emotional tools to raise healthy, confident, and school-ready children.

EXPANSION: Activities

  • Weekly or monthly workshops at local schools or CHOCU Learning Centers

    Topics include:

    ▪Child development stages

    ▪Loving discipline without violence

    ▪Creating emotional safety

    ▪Talking to children with kindness

    ▪Building routines (mealtime, sleep, prayer)

    ▪Interactive teaching: drama, storytelling, role-play

👉 Many young mothers parent the way they were parented, often harsh, absent, or neglectful. These classes break the cycle by teaching them a better way.

➡️ Empowered mothers raise more secure, school-ready children.

  • ▪Teach how to prepare balanced meals using local, affordable foods

▪Demonstrate food safety: washing hands, safe cooking, storing leftovers

▪Explain infant feeding, weaning, and breastfeeding best practices

▪Promote basic home hygiene: washing clothes, cleaning bedding, child sanitation

👉 These lessons prevent malnutrition, diarrhea, and respiratory infections  the top killers of young children in rural Uganda.

➡️ Simple changes = life saved.

  • ▪Small discussion circles for young mothers

▪Share personal stories of hardship, healing, and hope

▪Discuss postpartum emotions, anxiety, abuse, rejection, and fear

▪Encourage sisterhood, mutual support, and resilience

▪Offer spiritual encouragement (optional faith discussions)

▪Refer severe cases to local mental health nurses or clinics

👉 Young mothers often feel alone, ashamed, or overwhelmed. Emotional healing leads to better caregiving and often prevents child neglect.

  • ▪Help mothers access antenatal care, immunizations, and postnatal services

▪Assist with transport or navigation to clinics

▪Educate on warning signs in infants (fever, diarrhea, weight loss, etc.)

▪Create referral partnerships with midwives, nurses, and health centers

👉 Many young mothers simply don’t know where to go or what to ask for, CHOCU becomes their bridge to healthcare.

  • Small, highly accountable fund to help in urgent cases:

    ▪Baby without clothes

▪Child with fever but no transport

    ▪Mother kicked out of home

▪Child denied food or basic need

    ▪Provide one-time support: $5–$15 per case

▪Document all assistance with signatures and follow-up

👉 This fund isn’t charity, it’s rescue. It steps in before small emergencies become tragedy.
